We would like to have option for custom event to trigger tooltip such as click, hover etc.

As noted in other issues that were closed with no resolution, tooltips must be able to be triggered by both hover and focus. This should be the default behavior. Currently, tooltips respond to only one or the other.

Although the tabindex method above can work, the overall usage experience is not very convenient.

no update yet! , the solution is great but the tooltip still remain visible. Auto hide after duration may be fix for it.
