Enabling repodata compression in local cache?

Is there a way to enable repodata compression for the local (on disk) build package cache? If not, could there be?

We have the options these days (thanks to @pavelzw). However, for the build package cache I don't see a super compelling reason to do it. Can you elaborate? Is your cache very large?
