unreliable wrist menu summon on vive

I'm using the HTC Vive and its wands and i have only gotten the wrist menu to appear once in a blue moon. No clue what's causing the inconsistency, but without being able to manipulate the menu on my desktop once in vr mode, settings seem stuck pretty permanently

i second this. I can summon the menu once in game, a few minutes of gameplay later i cannot summon it anymore.
