Feature Request: Z Offset

Open daniel-starke opened this issue 3 years ago • 4 comments

I would like to request an additional option to control the overall z offset moving the whole thing higher or lower. This makes it easier to deal with slightly uncalibrated z offsets.

First of all, thanks a lot for publishing this. I was so glad to find this little tool and I find it very useful. Second, I would love to see this feature implemented as well. I too rely on the slicer software to adjust the Z offset. Without this, I don't the right first layer adhesion for these calibration towers.

Do you have baby stepping? Or else you could manually add some gcode.

I'm not sure adding any more to the tool will be any help. It's already pretty complex.

Sir, thank you very much once again. I didn't know one could use the G28 command like that. For me that works and is simple enough not to be included in the code for this calibration tower. People in the same situation as us can simply manually add the code at the beginning. So I would consider the issue solved. @daniel-starke, would you agree?

For future reference, from the link shared above, this is how G28 is used to manually set a Z offset:

The key to adjusting Z offset using G-code is to home the printer first with G28 Z0.

Next, G92 Z0.1 can be used to set a manual Z offset for printing. In this case, the printer has established the current (home) position to be Z = 0.1 mm. This will create a -0.1-mm offset, where any movement command after this will be lowered by 0.1 mm on the Z-axis.

Possible, but not very user friendly. I would still prefer a setting with a real offset calculated on all values.
