Sticky modifier key indicator cannot be hidden

The Virtual Keyboard -> Indicate sticky modifier keys state configuration option doesn't work anymore.

I have it configured off:

But still I get the popup in the bottom right corner of the screen:

I'm on version 14.9.0.

I have the same problem. After downgrading to v14.8, the problem stopped and I am now using this workaround.
