Feature Request: Toggle Between pp and Ranked Score as Default Profile Metric
The forum post for feature request can be found on the link above and has enough traction to the point I'd think it would be worth your attention.
Overview Introduce a user-configurable toggle that allows players to choose whether their profile displays rankings and performance based on performance points (pp) or ranked score by default.
While pp has been the primary competitive metric in osu! for over a decade, a dedicated subset of the community continues to pursue ranked score as their main goal. This isn’t just a nostalgic preference — it's an actively competitive scene, with recognizable names frequently topping scoreboards on newly ranked maps.
Despite being considered a legacy system, ranked score remains relevant and meaningful for many. For these players, seeing pp as the default metric misrepresents their personal progress and standing within their chosen competitive framework.
Technical Considerations;
- A toggle option in user settings/config
- Adjustments to how profile data is queried and displayed:
- Ranked score would replace pp in ranking visualizations
- Best performance tab would show ranked score plays instead of pp if selected.
Sorry for the formatting of the text, I don't use github, it was almost impossible for me to find the correct place and how to post compared to forum. You can find more info on the forum post about visual mockups and more reasoning regarding this topic.
I don't foresee this ever happening sorry.
Can you at least give your reasoning as to why you don't forsee this happening?
Technical issues or anything.
- Users know where to expect things. Allowing customisation will lead to confusion
- People will start to ask for more customisation using this as a precedent
- Ranked score would not be the metric we chose to have as an alternative to PP as it is proven to be quite unbalanced and heavily based on play time
- It's not technically straightforward as you may expect given the scope requested
- It is something that a minority would use, and we already have other forward developments which will focus "non-pp" players instead of bringing back a relic from the past.
I'm providing these as goodwill. I'm not really looking for discussion so will not further elaborate in this thread, but hope that you can understand our reasoning.
Thank you for the reasoning. I find the reasons 1,2,4 quite fair and since you don't want to debate this, I won't post about reasons 3 and 5. Hopefully the community can come up with 3rd party tools to solve this.
