I would like to run an FTP server on my nvidia shield, I already tried Only this does not let me select the folders on my usb hdd. Anyway to get this working? Btw I needed to get this sideloaded to get it working on Android TV.

  • Newer versions of FTP Server have improved gui to set the rootfolder (version 2.11 and up). What version are you using.
  • Not all versions of android allow selecting the usb as a file system. I don't know about the shield.
  • Do you know if you can use FTP Server without a touchscreen?
  • Does FTP Server looks OK in the leanback interface of android tv?

I might be interested in adding all needed enhancements to make this an android tv ready app. Just want to know the current state when sideloading.

Hi thanks for your reply

  • I was using: FTP Server Demo_v2.12.0_apkpure.com.apk
  • Am not sure about the USB on Android, it seems some apps work and some not. For example ES File explorer can see it, Kodi and Another FTP server see it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theolivetree.ftpserver&hl=en see it When I add the USB Drive on my Sony Android TV only ES File Explorer sees it (So I assume Shield supports it better).
  • Yes the FTP server seems to work ok with the controller
  • The interface is ok selecting of the root folder is a bit annoying to scroll through though. I do use Sideload to run it, would be nice if Android TV was supported so this was not necessary.

The other FTP server works ok btw only it only has write access somehow but not delete access, I am researching this a bit now as it looks like Android has some quircks with external storage and changed it with new versions (some apps seem to do some hacky workaround).
