Some fonts are not usable in some windows apps

Open u0m3 opened this issue 9 years ago • 10 comments

Some applications present error messages when attempting to load/use the font. For example the font dialog for putty lists the font but does not allow preview and when attempting to use it, complains about font not existing. However Microsoft Office Word 2013 is OK with it.

List of discovered offending fonts:

  • Meslo LG L DZ Regular for Powerline.otf
  • Meslo LG L Regular for Powerline.otf
  • Meslo LG M DZ Regular for Powerline.otf
  • Meslo LG M Regular for Powerline.otf
  • Meslo LG S DZ Regular for Powerline.otf
  • Meslo LG S Regular for Powerline.otf
  • Ubuntu Mono derivative Powerline Bold Italic.ttf
  • Ubuntu Mono derivative Powerline Bold.ttf
  • Ubuntu Mono derivative Powerline Italic.ttf
  • Ubuntu Mono derivative Powerline.ttf

Possible duplicate of #115

I can confirm with the Meslo fonts as well. Issue #115 seems to indicate that this is a name length issue. I'm playing around with the font itself to see if i can get it to work on Mintty.

Vim for Windows won't accept the patched Cousine or Liberation Mono fonts. Maybe they aren't marked as monospace?

The patched DejaVu Sans Mono works fine.

On MacOS 10.12, the Ubuntu Mono derivative Powerline fonts return an error "1 serious error was found. Do not use this font." when attempting to install them. This may be related.

Can confirm that Putty on Windows 10 doesn't want to use the Meslo Fonts. More precise, in the font selection dialogue, you can choose the font, but the preview will be empty. If you then try to apply the changes, a dialogue pops up stating that "There is no font with that name. Choose a font from the list of fonts.", indicating that it actually is about the font names.

Any update on this? I'm having the same issue with PuTTY on windows 10

If you "allow selection of variable-pitch fonts" you can select it. I noticed it to be really slow though. When starting stuff like vim in full screen you can see it print line by line.

👍 +1

Windows 10, putty, Ubuntu Mono derivative Powerline.ttf: "There is no font with that name. Choose a font from the list of fonts."

Checking "Allow selection of variable-pitch fonts" doesn't help.

Fira Mono is a great alternative, and supports more unicode characters on Windows 7.

Note: it shows up in Putty as FuraMono.

On Windows 7, could not get Ubuntu Mono derivative Powerline to work for Putty, even when enabling variable-pitch fonts

Windows 10, KiTTY, Ubuntu Mono derivative Powerline.ttf

Same error as reported by others. Still no solution to this?

It seems to indeed be the case that Cousine is not marked as monospace; I don't even see it in PuTTY until I click on 'Allow variable-pitch fonts.' The lightning bolt character being wider than the other characters would seem to confirm that.
