[ENHANCEMENT] Include part of the unique path for items with the same name in the sidebar

Cosmic-files version:

cosmic-files:
  Installed: 0.1.0~1727982431~24.04~08e872a

Issue/Bug description: In Cosmic Files, when multiple files or directories with the same name are pinned to the sidebar but are from different locations, it can lead to confusion as the sidebar only displays the name without any context.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Open Cosmic Files
  • Create a file/dir
  • Create a clone of created item
  • Move the cloned item to a different location
  • Rename the cloned item to the original
  • Add both items to sidebar

Expected behavior: When pinning files or directories with identical names, the sidebar should display a part of their unique paths (e.g., the parent directory name or the full path) alongside the name. This will help users quickly identify which file or directory they are referring to without having to hover or click to see details.

Other notes: Multiple entries of TestFolder but from different locations are in distinguishable. image

Something like using parent dir name to differentiate between the two

TestFolder (~/../Test) TestFolder (~/../Replace Test)

From what I can see in other file browsers they treat the situation exactly the same as we do. I agree, it would be nice to differentiate the folders and that next level enclosing folder might be the best differentiator. The main concern here is that the name of the folder could be long and it's not clear what to do to fit it in the sidebar width. We also currently don't have name truncation implemented the way we'd like it to work. So this enhancement will have to wait.
