LUG-helper Star Citizen Launcher Display Bug

Open gordiss1 opened this issue 2 months ago • 1 comments

Describe the bug When launching RSI Launcher for Star Citizen, two windows appear with one being the main launcher and the other being the COSMIC top bar. The main launcher window almost immediately disappears but seems to not be crashing, because the launcher music is still playing, the other small window is still visible, and the process still runs on SysMonitor.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Install Star Citizen via LUG-helper or Lutris while using COSMIC DE
  2. Run RSI Launcher

Expected behavior RSI Launcher to start normally with one window launching when running application, as experienced on KDE and GNOME.

Additional context Pop!_OS is great, COSMIC has a ton of potential. Hoping for easier Secure Boot support in the future.

You will want to set "Quit launcher when window is closed" but you can hide the systray icon object with a registry change in your Wine Prefix for Star Citizen. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer and create a new value NoTrayItemsDisplay and set it to 1 (DWORD).

After asking for help on discord, people pointed me to using the "--use-gl=osmesa" solution. Just add it as an argument to the launch parameters and it solved the problem for me.

Got around to testing this on Niri; I get a very similar popup, albeit a maximized one due to the tiling.

This is more than likely something to do with the smithay library, which is the base rust library both comps build off. https://github.com/Smithay/smithay. I'm looking into running up a test environment in anvil (smithay's testing compositor) to try and reproduce it there to be sure, but nixos is making it a little painful (what do you mean libudev wasn't found i'm literally running systemd ughhhh), so I'll update when I can get it running. Anyone else running something a little more forgiving or slightly better at operating system shenanigans than I is also welcome to give a few tests a shot, then we can perhaps try to upstream an issue to the main smithay repo.
