Dock flickers when hovered, and "Intelligently hide" is enabled

Open canadaduane opened this issue 2 years ago • 3 comments

When the Dock Visibility setting is set to "Intelligently hide" and I fullscreen an app (e.g. Firefox) then hover over the dock with the mouse pointer, the Dock slides out (as it should) but flickers whenever I move between app icons, as if it is being hidden and then shown over and over.

I only see this happening on an external monitor. The built-in laptop monitor does not seem to have the same issue.

Environment: two monitors, using Dock on the external monitor; workspace 1; Wayland; Intel graphics

Weird possible hint: When I try to screen record to show the problem, it always stops flickering and works correctly. As if having the Peek screen recording app window hovering over the Dock area is solving the problem. Could the Dock be going "behind" the full-screen app, I wonder, but Peek's status as a window pinned on top is helping it not to go behind the full-screen window?

Edit: When "Dock Visibility" is set to "Always hide" the same issue occurs. Only when set to "Always visible" does the flickering stop.

I have same issue when Firefox is maximised, but not with any of my otther apps so far. After trying many variations of the preferences nothing helped. It may have something to do with mouse pressure, if I keep the cursor against the bottom of the screen and move it a bit along the bottom the flickering stops. I resolved(sic) this by unmaximising the window and manually extending the edges of the window to the edges of the screen. Now I have small gaps at the top two corners (libadwaita's rounded corners I'm guessing), a pseudo maximised window if you will, but which is far less irritating than the flickering dock. Hopefully this will get fixed in future updates. I suspect Wayland is clashing with hardware acceleration.

Firefox 102.0, Fedora 36, Gnome 42.2 on Wayland, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet Gen 3, Intel® Core™ i5-8250U, Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 620

Oh wow, you're right! I didn't realize it was just when Firefox is maximized. I wonder what could be causing this?

Hello, everyone! After the update to Fedora 37 (Gnome 43.1, Wayland), same bug appeared with any maximized window. Before update (Fedora 36) this bug was only with Firefox. Thanks! Update: Dash to Dock for COSMIC version: 20
