Steam main window won't show, friends window works

The steam main window is not displaying for me recently. The friends window does show up if I open it from the system tray.

A workaround: Enter big picture mode using the status area applet and exit big picture mode, then the main window will show up

Not sure if it will work for you, but whenever I have this problem I kill all steamwebhelper instances with the system monitor app & then I can open Steam again.
