Tray icons don't get updated

I have Mattermost (flatpak) as tray icon. When I get a new message the icon doesn't get updated to show the blue dot for new messages. Also is not working when I start mattermost and I have unread messages, but after reading them, the blue dot should vanish.

This is still happening. Slack, Mattermost, Discord, etc often do not get notification dots; or they get them, and they don't go away when the notifications are cleared. Seems it might update when coming out of suspend, but it's not updating in real-time like it needs to.

This is simply not implemented. The StatusNotifierItem only reads the icon (and menu) information when it appears. I'll have a go at it :)
