[Feature Request] Visually distinguish between empty and non-empty workspaces
Currently, the workspace applet shows any workspace that is created - empty or not. Usually, this is fine but might be problamatic when using many pinned workspaces. As someone who is used to how other WMs handle workspaces, to emulate their behavior, I tend to pin the first 9 workspaces on any display. This however leads to them being display equally in the applet, independent of if they are currently in use or not, which can be confusing.
A visual indicator (like a greyish background for that number) to show which workspaces are non-empty would elleviate this problem.
It would be better to have a separate workspace indicator, similar to XFCE, where each workspace shows the number of open windows represented by small rectangles. This would also give users the choice between a numbered workspace view or a preview-style workspace indicator.
