Applications screen is empty

How did you upgrade to 21.10? (Fresh install / Upgrade) Two attempts:

  1. Fresh install on VM few days ago, today sudo apt update & sudo apt upgrade
  2. Fresh install on VM today.

Related Application and/or Package Version (run apt policy $PACKAGE NAME): Unknown - I don't know what program/component it is exactly.

Issue/Bug Description: At times, "Show Applications" is completely empty, aside from search bar. Just before posting this issue the icons showed up, so I rebooted the system and they disappeared again. I don't recall this happening before, so recent update could affect the behavior. empty-applications

Steps to reproduce (if you know): Unknown. Relogging and rebooting seems to fix or break this.

Expected behavior: applications

Other Notes: None.
