Restore on windows fails due to semi-colons

  1. backup something on windows
  2. restore it

this fails because during backup we construct a VFS like: /c:/Users/omar/ and upon restore we attempt to re-create the structure. on unix this works, but on windows we cannot create a directory named c:.
