The repository storage is not being cleaned up
Hello,
I am using version V1.0.2 and I am having a problem with the local repository.
It keeps growing, even though I delete snapshots to keep only 15 days of retention.
I have tried running plakar at @local maintenance, but the folder keeps growing as if deleting the snapshots had no effect.
Perhaps I'm missing something :-( Many thanks
Hello,
I'm on v1.0.2 too, and I have the same issue.
I launched a plakar backup command, trying to backup a huge folder (plenty of images). Then I changed my mind and hit Ctrl-C. As a result, storage size is 44GB, while logical size is 19.3GB. There are clearly dangling objects! Worth to note: the interrupted snapshot does not appear il the list of snapshot.
I ran plakar maintenance giving me this output:
maintenance: Coloured 0 packfiles (0 orphaned) for deletion
maintenance: 314591 blobs and 1327 packfiles were removed
But storage size remains 44GB in the UI. du -hs command reports 41GB.
When I sync this backup repository to an S3 remote, logical size remains at 19.3GB
Is plakar maintenance really doing the job? Thanks,
nobody to help me ????
I don't want to delete all my backup :-(
Many Thanks
Hello @knarou34,
apologize, I haven't seen this issue before. Maintenance works by flagging data as to be removed, but it won't be deleted the data before 30 days. So, if you run maintenance today and some data is flagged, it will be deleted once you run maintenance again after 30 days.
We've just improved the maintenance output to be more clear on the matter: https://github.com/PlakarKorp/plakar/pull/1717.

Is there a way to force delete, without waiting the 30 days?
For my case, I does not work. It seems to be another issue. -> I open a new ticket https://github.com/PlakarKorp/plakar/issues/1761

Hello @omar-polo Taking into account the 30 days, my repo is not decreasing, it continues to grow.
I ran a test. Old repo, no more backups on it and daily maintenance. I deleted all the snapshots and it's the same, my repo still takes up the same amount of space.
Gilles mentioned a flag to force deletion without waiting 15 days.
In any case, for me, maintenance is not working properly because the repo is not cleaning up properly.
I'm surprised I haven't heard more about this.
Thank you.
