Low Video Quality

Open XinJiangCN opened this issue 5 years ago • 9 comments

Thanks for creating this patcher! It does work. However, I find the video quality on my iPad is really bad, and even flickering when I drag the apps.

I'm using an Early 2015 MacBook 12, with the first generation iPad Pro 9.7.

Is this a known issue? Or is there any workaround for it?

BTW, my iPad works pretty well with my Late 2015 iMac, which is officially supported for Sidecar. Same 5GHz network. High quality, even YouTube videos on the iPad screen.

Having the same issue. I am using a Mid 2015 Macbook Pro 15 Inch, with 2018 iPad Pro 12 inch. I think it could be something related to the compression bitrate. Because when I am viewing a white page with minimal information such as google.com my screen does not flicker. But when I am viewing a complex image the screen flickers a lot. Maybe there is some options to increase the bitrate or decrease the QP of the HEVC encoding.

Edit: It seems like CPU older than 2016 doesn't support HEVC encoding. If thats the case is it possible to decrease the QP of the AVC encoding?

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding the scope of this project. If you have any bugs other than, does not work at all for X device.

This project will not be able to fix your issue.

What this does:

  • Allow unsupported devices to use / be used by sidecar

What this does not do:

  • Modify Apple's implementation of Sidecar in any way

This project is useless if the end product is not even usable (i.e. poor resolution and flickering). What I don't understand is how this person doesn't have the flickering issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJ4FLFL7nUE.

Anyways you're better off using Duet for older Macs.

Use SwitchResX to improve resolution
