bash: ./untrunc: Permission denied

I downloaded unbuntu and am running on VMware player. I am trying to run ./untrunc video.mp4 video2.mp4 as the command.

All it will say is bash: ./untrunc: Permission denied

This is an "osboxes.org" vmware image. I have to admit I am getting so frustrated that I am about to bash the laptop in with a sledgehammer. It took about 2 day just to copy the files because VMware tools refused to work and no USB drives would detect. I finally mounted an .ISO file to get access to the files..

Now this permissions message. I tried su - and it asks for a password but nothing works. All the directories are set to read/write.

I am using a modified version from a youtube video so not sure if that is causing issues. Does anyone know how to fix this, also does anyone have a link to a compiled updated version of the program?

Edit: I have tried a ton of other program and non worked, the video truncated when phone crashes.. It's 4gb in size and important. I am really hoping I won't have to do the hex editing stuff because this is getting way over my head.

Hi, If you have windows you can try the automated builds available on this fork. Otherwise I recommend VirtualBox with Xubuntu. Good luck!

@anthwlock I don't know you, but I love you man!! I did not know there was a windows fork version of this program. I tried your link and ran the file through with another working mp4 (with very very low hopes after what I've been through here with vmware) and it worked (Windows 10 laptop)! This was actually a part of wedding video (I'm on vacation and camera truncated it) You just made my entire trip!!

If you want to send me your paypal address I'd like to donate to you. I spent sooo much time on this and even ordered the wifi package on the ship just to fix this.. now I can enjoy the rest of the trip haha

Also if you can send me the untrunc authors paypal I will donate to him too.

Man I never realized how difficult linux can be! I'm so happy right now

Great! I made the fork for this very reason: too many frustrating problems with untrunc. I updated the donation section: link. Have a great remaining trip!

@brentjohnston : I think you should close this issue, seems to be fixed for you. I can also add that your issue was probably that you were trying to write the result to your iso file which, by definition, is read only (as it represents a CD or DVD) ;-)
