Shortcuts stop working from time to time

Open Golden-Odysseus opened this issue 1 month ago • 7 comments

From time to time, the shortcuts for mute/seek/speed stop working on youtube (have not checked on other sites) using chrome/windows. The indicator still show up for a few seconds as if the command is correctly given, but no action is engaged on the video.

Any suggestions? Is this a known issue?

Any comments? It just happened again. From my print, S and E, which increase and decrease speed, work normally, but Z, X, B and N, which advances and rewinds the video, just stop working (although the indicator still shows on the screen as I press these keys - for example, if I press N to advance 3 seconds, the indicator +3 shows on the screen but nothing happens), and I have to reload the page so that it can work again.

If I open a new youtube video link in the same page/tab, just using the mouse clicking in the related videos links, the commands for advance and rewind still don't work in the new video, but If a open a new video using these links in a new tab, then they work.

Hello! Not sure what's causing the issue.

  1. You mentioned Chrome, is Global Speed through the Chrome Web Store or did you manually load it (Unpacked)?
  2. Have you tried re-installing the extension in the past?

Next time it happens: Right click on the page and do Inspect. It should open the developer tools panel. Go to the console tab and check if there's any errors and screenshot them.

  1. I used chrome web store. Is this correct or incorrect?
  2. Have tried to install, reinstall, disable, etc.

If I have 2 youtube tabs open, it will work say for tab A and not work for tab B. If click on the extension symbol on the right top corner on chrome, and try for example to play/pause, or to use PIP button, it will only work for the tab in which the extension is working tab A, but not for tab B. But, if I try to use a pre set speed using this extension symbol, it will work for both tabs.

Image here? i noticed that the problem is happening with live streams, not normal videos.

Just saw that the problem is not only with live streams. I was watching a random video and everything was ok. Finished it, left the tab opened an opened a new tab on youtube with a new video, and the extension was not working anymore, but goin back to the previos tab, the extension was still ok.

The screenshot errors seem unrelated to Global Speed. But I suspect the issue has something to do with memory management. Chrome is probably unloading resources on background tabs, and Global Speed isn't equipped to deal with that at the moment. Not 100% sure.
