Open wilmtang opened this issue 1 month ago • 1 comments

Problem

Speed and seeks no longer work on reddit videos Not sure if it's something changed in Brave, but it was working until recently

Repro:

  • Steps
    • Open a reddit video. example https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/1oziqbk/former_psg_star_zlatan_ibrahimovi%C4%87_stops_an
    • Speed and seeks doesn't work anymore
  • Works on other websites
  • Reproducible 80% of time in with or without ghost mode. Seems after opening a tab and wait for a while speed changes and seek works again
  • Doesn't reproduce on Chrome, Firefox

Environment

Latest public Brave version, reproducible in private mode

  • Brave 1.84.139 (Official Build) (arm64)
  • Chromium: 142.0.7444.163

PS. Brave browser uses Chrome's webstore for plugins

MacOS Sequoia 15.7.1-latest public version

Interesting issue.

Reproducible 80% of time in with or without ghost mode. Seems after opening a tab and wait for a while speed changes and seek works again

I was able to reproduce this. The extension only seems to take effect after a certain delay or gesture.

The issue seems to be gone when loading Global Speed as a developer (Unpacked version). That makes it hard to test. For now, I'm hoping the issue resolves itself.

Here's the latest draft version of Global Speed as an unpacked zip.

global-speed-chromium.zip

  1. Open Global Speed, go to the options page and export your settings.
  2. Download and extract out the folder.
  3. Open brave://extensions
  4. Disable the Chrome Web Store version of Global Speed.
  5. Enable Dev mode and then Load Unpacked (load the extracted zip).
  6. In the new version of Global Speed, go to options page and import the exported settings.

Please follow up in a month or two if the issue hasn't resolved.
