hwdb sounds fine to me. If the devices are recognizable via the HID descriptors that would be even better, hwdb stuff is last resort stuff, but my guess is that...
And yes, a udev rules file like this one https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-devices/blob/master/60-steam-input.rules is not acceptable. For inclusion upstream must be hwdb.
is this the same thing that #22730 implements? not a gamer myself, i have no idea what these devices are like.
So as I understand we can close this now as 305272ab2b62a031a91ed3490cb053bee0594964 has been merged, and that's the better approach for delegating access to rawhid devices now. Closing hence.
