Auotomatically add episodes or clips to Playlists or Filters
Would it be possible to dynamically add new episodes from specific podcasts to a Playlist?
As an example, I would like a Playlist that consists of new, unplayed episodes from a subset of my podcasts. This would allow me to break new episodes up by topic or based on how frequently I listen to them. There are some podcasts that I listen to which I play every new episode as soon as it comes out, but I also have some podcasts that I only listen to if I have extra time.
This may not be exactly what you envisioned playlists being used for (sharing). As an alternative, this could be created as filters which are not viewable by others.
@jeff-chandler thanks for the feature request! It is definitely possible...my main blocker at the moment is I'm not totally sure what UX to go with. For example, some people have requested the ability to group podcasts into folders on the home screen. That might be a way for you to get a similar end result?
The playlists at least conceptually are more intended for sharing, but we could add "automatically add new episodes from X podcast to X playlist." I am just wondering if folders would be better/worse/equal for your purposes?
@mitchdowney Thanks for the quick response. I think that my usecase falls more under the filters or folders idea instead of the playlists that are there currently.
@jeff-chandler ok cool. I'll leave the issue open for now, although it sounds like #654 might fit your use case. We've wanted to add the feature for a long time, but just have had so many other high priorities to work on...will definitely keep this in mind with future feature development.
Just wanted to add my enthusiasm for this. It's the one missing feature from PocketCasts that stops me from switching full time. I have a number of filters setup, most importantly my "most listened" filter which is just the shows I want to keep up to date on. I like that it allows me to keep a closer eye on downloads since I can easily just download from the list as I see fit, as opposed to autodownload a mess of podcasts. Keep up the great work!
I also want to upvote this! It is very convenient to have specific podcasts added automatically to a specific playlist when you have a large list of subscriptions.
This is something I’d really like to see. Overcast & Castamatic have great UX for this.
