Build a vacation tracker app with Lists and SharePoint for Teams
When it is summer or the holidays season, we know it is vacation time.

I think it is a great solution. However, calender view doesn't show a date range when I put in e.g. 01.12. as a start and 03.12. as an end date. 02.12. and 03.12. are completely blank. Am I doing anything wrong?

Hi, thank you very much for this solution. I have looked for really easy solution and this is it. However, after creating List, the first column named Title can be renamed, but I am not able to change format. I would like to have possibility to change Type of this column to Name (user), that user can input their name and avatar as well. I am not able to edit even delete it. Dk you have any idea how to solve this.
Thank you!
@janmotycakrenomia as workaround you could make a people column and rename it as you wish + make the Title not required and edit the forms subsequently.
I have the same issues with @Peter20221 and @janmotycakrenomia @whtmn33 requested solution is not possible because Title column doesn't have the option to edit it so you can't make it "not required". Any other solutions for these? Thank you already :)
You can make another column required and then make title column optional. Yu ou can do that from list settings

I was able to set up the solution but am unable to get the dynamic filtering set up correctly. I have two lists, both seem to be set up correctly, but when I click on a name in the second list, the calendar goes blank, showing no one's vacation entries. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Thank you!
When the view is flat (default) there is no problem. But if it's a calendar view, I can see results only if I choose at least two items to filter by. filtering doesn't work for single item. please recommend a solution.
Did anyone get it to work to remove the option to make Title (Name) required? Or to change Name, which is Text, to Person? How do you make the title column optional?
I can hide the column. But then it still shows up when I add a new vacation
Can we setup an email alert as soon as someone requests for leave?
I have the same problem as nrjunk, whatever team member I chose, it will only show an empty calendar view... @nrjunk, did you ever get this resolved?
Conditional Formatting can only be applied on Title or Date based on the calendar view. I'd like to apply conditional formatting by any other column which at the moment is not possible. Is there anyother workaround?
@ahoeschele @janmotycakrenomia and anyone else, I came up with a Solution to this.
For both lists add a new column with these details for both lists "Name" = "Person" "Type" = "Person or Group" "Show Profile Photos" = "Yes" More Options > "Require that this coulmn contains Information" = "Yes" For the Team Member list also include "Allow multiple selections" = "Yes"
You can then move the Person column to the front, Add your Start and End Date Columns. Then click on the down arrow on the Title Coulmn > Column Settings > Hide this Column. Note: it will still appear when you create a new item but ignore this. and obviosuly for the Team list you don't need the dates coulmns.
Next the linking of the two lists select the below options. Dynamic Filtering = On "Column in Team's Vacation Tracker to Filter" = "Person" "List or library containing the filter value" = "Team Members" "Column containing the filter value's properties" = "Name" "Name's properties" = "Title"
Ok lastly we need to create a View that works with this, Follow the tutorial aboves create view options or you can "edit Current View" which is located in the same dropdown. Under "More" > Title of items on ca;endar", you should now be able to select "Person". Note:Also make sure that the start and end dates are selected when in the edit screen (mine was wacked for some reason).
Then lastly edit the team vacations web part and make sure the default view is set to the new view you've created.
I hope this works for everyone, first time on github so dunno how this all works. But Good luck :) i'll try to be active and spot any replies for questions.

Is there a way to assign a different color to each entry created by a user. specific to Calendar Month View. so each person's entry is a different color?
