Panel for Edit site information

I want to open Edit site information panel in SharePoint Online site on click of a custom button. There is a JS function _spLaunchSiteSettings() to open site information panel which is being used by Microsoft. But, this function is not documented.

Will this function become supported? so we can go ahead and use it. If not, is there any alternate to open the OOTB Edit site information panel
