If you don't plan to allow the community to update this platform, at least make it official and inform potential users about that fact. Thinking that something is supported (by the community) when in fact there is zero support just wastes a lot of time. Having information about the support-status of this platform hidden in a very long github issue discussion is not transparent at all.

A direct link to the alternative (earlephilhower/arduino-pico) would be even better than just a warning. But I thought you might not want that. I hope you find this suggestion reasonable.
I came to this platform expecting the best from it since I saw it supported Open Source development. Making a much needed PR wait a year and counting to merge without good reason sends the wrong message. This is almost feels like a hostage situation.
Make it clear to other developers what are they gonna be coming here for.
