We're not planning to add this in the initial v2 release, but we'd definitely like to add it afterwards.

But even without that, Planka is already significantly better than Trello from my perspective, I'm sure I'm not alone.

The ability to mention users is in our plans. We'd like to change the editor first and we'll think about mentions afterwards. Unfortunately, we just don't have enough resources to get this all done faster and we also don't have any funding, but we're in the process of solving these problems.
