So this is an app data dir, rather than a user data dir, so could fall under this group of dirs to auto exclude.

Is there anything inherently problematic for fslint here? Does it have lots of duplicate files for example?

It can have duplicates within the same */.mediaartlocal directory or with $HOME/.cache/media-art. Both Banshee and Rhythmbox are using it for storing picture information about the album and some times for every track.
