Launching without permission is now allowed?
Observed behaviour
Recently I have been using the undock button to launch, instead of the "Request Launch" button in the Lobby, not sure if this is a bug or a feature, seem to remember doing this in the past would result in a "launching without permission is not allowed" type message followed by a fine or getting chased by the police? Makes the launch request button sort of redundant.
Expected behaviour
I would expect some excitement, and maybe a criminal record, even death, after clicking the undock button.
Steps to reproduce
Click the undock button.
My pioneer version (and OS):
20230131 Linux.
I think that wasn't the case in Pioneer ever, but happened in Frontier. You indeed supposed to launch by asking clearance though. But right now there's a bug and you won't get clearance upon game start due to an error with crew handling. You can launch fine with the launch button or if you check out your crew roster. And then you can ask permission later on.
Hehe, you are probably right, I go all the way back to Elite on the Amiga, and was a big fan of Frontier, funny how the memory is playing tricks, remember so vividly these times taking off without asking permission. Sorry guys. :
I remember writing the code for illegal take off, so.... should be there. Unless we removed it for some reason. Keep it open, and I'll investigate
Wasn't that for illegal jumping?
Looking through #3254, and seeing #3753, you're probably right.
I can tell you, at least in the most recent release build, that illegal takeoff is not a thing. I thought that was intentional, honestly.
The lack of illegal takeoff is intentional to a point, in that we've never implemented any punishment for circumventing the checks the station does when you request launch. It will most likely stay that way until/unless we do a redesign or major improvement of the law system.
Well, I've always had the intention to include them.
