Rust: Add a great first reading to building blocks 1
The beginning of the course is pretty boring, and there's not a lot of interesting background reading before project 1. I'm thinking a great way to start it off would be to make the first reading a link to a powerfully inspiring experience report. Something that makes people psyched to learn how to write systems programs in this unique language.
Here are two I've been suggested but haven't evaluated:
http://dtrace.org/blogs/bmc/2018/09/18/falling-in-love-with-rust
http://dtrace.org/blogs/bmc/2018/09/28/the-relative-performance-of-c-and-rust
Figure out whether that first one seems appropriate and make it the first reading of buildings blocks 1. If that blog isn't good enough find one that is.
@brson The first article was an excellent read! As someone who has somewhat introductory experience with rust, I felt I could appreciate the blog better. Assuming the audience for the course would be people having gone through the rust book, this articles seems like an amazing read.
PS: Thanks for sharing the article!
Bryan Cantrill's "Falling in Love With Rust" is a great read, IMO. His talk that parallels some of the blog content is also worth a watch for inspiring people to pick up Rust: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wZ1pCpJUIM.
