Heavy Battery Usage on Audio Stream Media

Open edwardlthompson opened this issue 10 years ago • 5 comments

I have noticed heavy usage of the media stream when set to Audio Stream Media. I have changed to Notifications Stream. If there is an optimal stream setting it would be nice to have it indicated in the options menu.

I have not noticed or heard of this issue before. What device and Android version? [Edit: Remembered email. Nexus 5 with 4.4.2] Can anyone else verify? The audio stream setting should only be a matter of preference by how Android handles audio.

I did not use my music player at all today. I believe I watched one short video on Facebook. Here is my usage for the day from two different apps.

A few minutes total seems about right for a moderate day of VN speaking. I'm not very familiar with the inner workings of TTS or wake locks, but I'm pretty sure the device needs to be partially awake in order to speak. However, a few minutes shouldn't be enough to cause noticeable battery drain. Aside from what you see in the usage monitors, have you experienced reduced battery life when using VN? If changing the audio stream as you have done has a significant affect on the reported or experienced usage, I would like to know. Also take a look at the built-in battery usage monitor. For me, at least based on what I'm looking at now, the screen usually takes up around 50% and Android OS about 10%, with most everything else 5% or below.

It was the second highest battery user right under screen. Since switching to the Notification stream I have had no problems. It was at 3% today but that is because I watched a few videos. I have an important shoot tomorrow but maybe Sunday I will switch it back to audio to reproduce the bug.
