Use a local server in the hotspot network and accessing it with server name

Hi,

I install a Piwigo gallery on an Ubuntu lamp server, and I connect this server to the hotspot network.

Actually, it is possible to connect to this server by its IP adress, and I would like to know if there's a way to access it by its machine name. And if there's a way, could I access by http://servername or http://servername.local

I see an issue file speaking about something like that suggesting to add "HS_LAN_ACCESS=on" in /etc/chilli/config file, but it seems it has no effect after service chilli stop|service chilli start.

By the way, what is the best method to fix the IP adress of the server ? Setting something in the Hotspot, or just setting a fixed IP in the wifi parameters of the server (better to select this adress in the end of the range like 192.168.10.255) ?

Thanks in advance for any help and Thanks again for your work

On the server set a fixed ip in the LAN range For the access by name you need a dns server, used by all and in it, you set the name/domain you want to the fixed ip set above. Remind that a name is first translated in an IP before getting accessed. To do that external DNS servers don't know the translation. Only internal DNS servers could help you but in this case all local machines should talk to local DNS servers to have the translation
