This has recently started happening to me also and has caused my OST file to get corrupted twice. I've been using this tool for years now so odd that it just started happening. I'm on v 2.8.0.0. I'd be happy to help dig in here more just let me know. I love this tool :)

Looking at the logs I'm seeing large gaps in-between entries. For example:

2021-01-19 14:25:10,805 DEBUG 13 OutlookGoogleCalendarSync.Recurrence [0] - Matching Google Event recurrence found.
2021-01-19 14:29:31,769 DEBUG 13 OutlookGoogleCalendarSync.Recurrence [0] - Finding Google instance for Outlook exception:-
2021-01-19 14:29:31,770 DEBUG 13 OutlookGoogleCalendarSync.Recurrence [0] - Original date: 20/01/2021
2021-01-19 14:30:37,361 DEBUG 13 OutlookGoogleCalendarSync.Recurrence [0] - Current date: 20/01/2021

@NGloreous What changed when you noticed the increase in time? Had you upgraded OGCS, increased the date range being synced, there's a bigger volume of meetings in your calendar?

How many items are being synced and compared each time OGCS runs?

Unfortunately, I won't be able to troubleshoot much further though unless you upgrade to v2.8.5 first.

I didn't upgrade OGCS. It just started about a week ago. There may have been an outlook upgrade. The calendar volume probably increased a bit but not tons. I'll upgrade OGCS next week and see how it goes.

This appears to be resolved for me, at least for now.

I did two things:

  1. Large cleanup of mail to reduce the size of my ost file (went from 80 GB email to 25 GB)
  2. Upgraded to v2.8.5 of OGCS.

My two way sync now takes 5 mins and I can still use Outlook at the same time. I'll keep an eye on this and provide logs if it happens again.

@NGloreous That's great news! Curious whether between those two changes you tested OGCS performance?

Ie. Did you test v2.8.0 with the reduced OST file and it still performed slowly?

I went back to v2.8 to test that scenario and it completed in 3 mins, so it would seem my issues were related to ost size.

That's really useful to know, thanks!

I encounter the same problem.

My Outlook365 Mailbox is of 22GB. I'm one way syncing about 62 calendar Entries O->G and this takes a looong time.

But that's not the problem, the real annoyance is that Outlook doesn't respond for minutes during the sync, which is really a pita when you midway of writing an email.

I'm on 2.9.0.0 beta at the moment.

Would be great if this blocking can be avoided.

@C0RD I've noticed this on occasion too - when I've checked the logs, I could see the delay was on a particular item which was a long running recurring series with many instances of the series as exceptions. For some reason, Outlook would start downloading loads of data from Exchange (and it's this that seems to make Outlook become unresponsive).

I'm not sure how to avoid this because, if you're the same as me, the Outlook Exchange account is configured to run in cached mode, so shouldn't be needing to download anything. Normally the next day this behaviour also stops? I think it may be triggered by a new series exception being created/updated.

As others have said though, try reducing the size of your OST and/or running an OST repair on it.
