Outlook calendar entries are unexpectedly deleted after creating

Open Apachecomander opened this issue 2 years ago • 17 comments

Good day My English is not good. First of all thanks for the great software.

Software version: 2.9.6 Sync error

Sync: O<->G Calendar entries are simply deleted in Outlook. Calendar entry is created then it is deleted each time by the OGCS tool. I have activated the Google delete function in Outlook. Otherwise my appointments will be deleted. Below the message (12 Google items would have been deleted, but you have deletions disabled.) OGcalsync.log

I think I have the same issue. I accepted some meeting appointments, they synced to Google, and now when syncing back to Outlook, they would have been deleted. But OGCS is only trying to delete the next 2 appointments ahead in time. When syncing next day after an appointment, the OGCS would then delete the next 2 in line?

Software version: 2.9.6 OGcalsync.log

I have the same issue. It would be great if there was a way to flag an appointment to say that it should not be deleted. Now I am repeatedly prompted at every sync to reject deletion of appointments that are actually not meant to be deleted in Outlook.

@Apachecomander It looks like the issue existed from 2.9.0 before you upgraded to 2.9.6. I'd therefore suggest you follow the guidance for getting rid of persistent deletion prompts and then monitor from there for unwanted deletions, uploading your logfile at that point. You'd need to enable deletions though, but keep the prompt on.

@anders-m You're saying that the Google event 25-04-2023 13:00 => "VC-Teknikmøde" exists in Google? And you haven't declined it?

@cmaegaard Not gonna happen for same reason as stated here.

@anders-m You're saying that the Google event 25-04-2023 13:00 => "VC-Teknikmøde" exists in Google? And you haven't declined it?

@phw198 Yes, try to see this new log for the event "22-05-2023 13:00 "VC-Teknikmøde"". But now it is only 1 event it will delete: OGcalsync.log

This is very odd, as it's matching all the items correctly for O->G, but then isn't for this one when going G->O.

:package: Please could you apply hotfix v2.9.7.2.zip (see instructions for applying) and turn up your logging to FINE (in Settings > Application Behaviour).

After you've reproduced the issue, please provide your logfile again. Thanks!

Hi @phw198 When applying the hotfix, the application will not start up. I'm getting 3 errors in the eventviewer:

Hi @anders-m

I've tested the patch over the top of v2.9.7.0 and it works OK for me. Suggest you double-check the instructions and make sure you are patching the correct executable file...

Cheers

Sorry, I was in the wrong directory. I have turned on fine logging and run sync 1 time, installed hotfix and synced 2 times, the issue is still there: OGcalsync.log

anders-m avatar May 15 '23 12:05 anders-m

@anders-m I think it's the same old advice as always that I put in my first post on this issue - did you try that yet?

Essentially, the 2 Outlook items have the same Google ID from only one of the items. I guess this is happening through copy and pasting an item in Outlook when OGCS isn't running.

By following the above linked steps, this should get resolved.

Google: 06-06-2023 14:00 => "VC-Teknikmøde" [Google Id: beirjtcihsm3isqtscpg87bavk]
Google: 19-06-2023 13:00 => "VC-Teknikmøde" [Google Id: kjn9ocit2g2qn4h6gumo1f0gis] <-- This one is not linked properly

Outlook: 06-06-2023 14:00 => "VC-Teknikmøde" [googleEventID=beirjtcihsm3isqtscpg87bavk]
Outlook: 19-06-2023 13:00 => "VC-Teknikmøde" [googleEventID=beirjtcihsm3isqtscpg87bavk] <-- So this is seen as a duplicate for deletion

Actually, if you could hold off the suggest fix, as I want to see if I can proactively detect this situation and then point users at the wiki entry...

phw198 avatar May 20 '23 19:05 phw198

:package: @anders-m Please apply hotfix v2.9.7.8.zip (see instructions for applying) - this should hopefully detect the issue and direct you to the wiki page automatically.

Please let me know how it goes and if the steps in the wiki do actually resolve the problem!

phw198 avatar May 21 '23 11:05 phw198

Hi @anders-m have you had any time to test the hotfix?

phw198 avatar May 27 '23 10:05 phw198

Hi @phw198 I have installed the Hotfix, and this link is showing in the default browser: https://github.com/phw198/OutlookGoogleCalendarSync/wiki/Hints-&-Tips#fixing-a-stubborn-unwanted-deletion-with-full-sync OGCS is showing a window where I can press Yes or No to continue with sync. I followed the first suggestion, set sync to Outlook -> Google, that did not work. Should I try removing all Metadata then?

I cant remember that I copyed items in Outlook at all, as I remember, every time this is happening, it is a meeting invite I accepted or a calendar entry my wife made.

I included the log, there is the sync with only Outlook -> Google and after that Outlook <-> Google. OGcalsync.log

anders-m avatar May 30 '23 12:05 anders-m

I followed the first suggestion, set sync to Outlook -> Google

The logs show you doing it the other way, Google -> Outlook, which is the wrong direction to resolve this. Could you try Outlook -> Google and then a two-way sync again?

phw198 avatar May 30 '23 22:05 phw198

My bad, and I forgot to press shift... But after doing the right thing this time, the issue is still there. See log for: (Sync startet ag 31-05-2023 08:31:37) Not deleted: 06-06-2023 14:00 "VC-Teknikmøde"

OGcalsync.log

anders-m avatar May 31 '23 06:05 anders-m

Could you try that again, but this time delete the 19-06-2023 13:00 => "VC-Teknikmøde" item before the one-way sync?

I'm hoping this will force the Outlook item to properly relink itself to the new Google item when it recreates it...

phw198 avatar Jun 04 '23 14:06 phw198

It looks like its working now, let's close the issue, and I can create a new if the issue returns?

Thanks for your time and help !

anders-m avatar Jun 14 '23 08:06 anders-m

Thanks for the update @anders-m. I'll leave this issue open, as it has some development against it, and it's possible that was part of the resolution...we'll have to see if it crops up again.
