symlinks disable workermode

What happened?

given a simple skeleton setup like this:

public -> test
src
symfony.lock

(note the symlink from public to test)

if i enter test and run APP_RUNTIME=Runtime\\FrankenPhpSymfony\\Runtime frankenphp php-server -l 0.0.0.0:8081 -av -w index.php everything works as expected

if i enter public and run the same command, frankenphp will not run in workermode!

$  frankenphp --version

if i add a failsafe check like:

it will triggern when run in public

Can you provide an example repository to test with? I think what is happening is that frankenphp expects ./public directory by default (in other words, it should work as expected when run from the root directory); and by running it inside ./public it is trying to look for <root>/public/public which is not there.

inside the test folder then, running APP_RUNTIME=Runtime\\FrankenPhpSymfony\\Runtime frankenphp php-server -l 0.0.0.0:8082 -av -w ./index.php will use worker mode. inside public it will use classic mode.

ah! I see! It is a symlink...

Hmmm. This is likely because somewhere we resolve the real directory, but the request is pointing to the symlinked directory (or vice versa), causing it not to realise it is supposed to be the other.

any suggestions how to resolve that? this happens in my legacy app as well, but here is not even public as a folder involved, but a symlinked folder name web from a required package into my project.

so web points to vendor/foo/bar/web in the project, and here as well, frankenphp will not use workermode.

The only workaround is probably to avoid symlinks for now, until we can fix the issue. I think I found the issue, but I’m running out of time before I need to head out of town for the week. If I can’t resolve it in time, someone else will have to take a look or wait until I get back.
