Audio without video

I'm trying to use only the audio without video, but i'm not receiving anything when used like that. When i'm using them combined it works.

Is it mandatory to have video in order to play audio with this player ?

no problems here when feeding from live stream ts+mp2 audio without video - well at least i can say that i hear sounds, my application is not ready for sound only i just tried it for this ticket. But it played.
