Same on macOS. Needs rewrite, we anyway should move to boost filesystem. Furthermore, I have the impression that most of the functionality in the directory class is not used.

According to Daniels suggestion I added a fix that reduces the number of test failures roughly about ten times (d5c8f851ca175f082617e2dcc2f54bf3ec78a7c5).

CI runs are ok: on macOS it is only the Timer_test that failed. Not related to XDR. The boost thing is weird, I will look into that.
