Feature Request: Select Vomnibar Result without Arrow Keys

Open ralphcallaway opened this issue 4 years ago • 7 comments

First off, this extension has been life changing. Thank you to the community for building and maintaining this work of beauty.

When I'm using the vomnibar after typing my query I'm using arrow keys to get to the result (please let me know if there is a better way already!). It feels way more vimmy to be able to use a command to select something arbitrary in the list based on index. Why press a key six times when you can add six to something else?

Alfred has a nice approach to this. Enter selects the first result. Cmd-N selects the N+1th. The icons on the side make it super easy to "discovery" this. Maybe something similar would work for vimium?

Thank you for the encouragement!

Vimium supports ctrl-N and ctrl-P for moving the cursor in the vomnibar, which matches the shortcut strategy in Chrome's omnibar, at least on Mac OS. I also like Alfred's UI treatment for hints for shortcuts. We need to better surface in the UI or docs that these keyboard shortcuts are supported, so I'll leave this issue open or create another one to make them more obvious.

@philc I join @ralphcallaway in the encouragement! What a beautiful and powerful extension!

As an avid Alfred user, I feel kinda lost when I have to use the arrow keys/trackpad to select a result in the Vomnibar. Would love a Cmd+Number.

Tried Ctrl+N and Ctrl+P and didn't find it as easy to use as Ctrl+P conflicts with one of my extension's keyboard shortcut.

I would also find hints in vomnibar super useful.

+1 for highlighting the first result and selecting it with Enter. Thank you for writing this awesome extension!

I was interested in this feature. I realized that I was able to open the 6th link with ALT-6 after a search.

Thank you for this wonderful extension!

@davelacorneille Sorry but Vimium's Vomnibar doesn't use Alt+Number to click a suggestion item. Are you using Vimium C or some other Vimium-Like extensions?
