Currently if I try any of the default rules it simply indents the block I'm on instead of tabbing out. Perhaps a different trigger key could be set that doesn’t conflict with tab?

Yes, you can't use both this plugin and Outliner plugin.

Did you consider other alternatives?

I'm not aware of any.

although an alternative feature (instead of using a different trigger key), is implementing a Rule where Tabout doesn't activate (eg. when we're in a List/Task environment - since Outliner is only for lists/tasks anyway)

+1 I would like tabout to have priority over outliner plugin.

+1 would love to have the option to switch to another hotkey! Can't use it currently due to the overlapping with indenting, but would love to have it. Thank you for developing!
