Suggestion: More stringent linting rules

I suggest Airbnb's linting rules to replace eslint:recommended. If not using eslint-config-airbnb directly, then basing our rules on a thorough reading of their rules and modifying as necessary. This would also help with the general idea of modernization and refactoring (#11).
