Clean-up build scripts and old makefile

In the repository there a lot of scripts and a makefile that is outdated. They only produce confusion and they should be removed. The whole build process requires a clean-up and better documentation, but maybe that is a task for another issue.

The Makefile was removed but I think there are still some cleaning to do on the scripts
