Sugestions to make PGF-TikZ more easily citable

Open briochemc opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Brief outline of the proposed feature

How does one properly cite this project?

Is the bib entry below correct/acceptable?

@manual{Tantau:2022,
  author   = {Till Tantau},
  title    = {{The TikZ and PGF Packages}},
  note     = {{Manual for version 3.1.9a}},
  url      = {https://github.com/pgf-tikz/pgf},
  date     = {April 25, 2022},
  year     = {2022},
  month    = {April}
}

Maybe instead the author list should be a (sub?)collection of all the contributors here and Till Tantau should be the editor (not sure there even is such a bibtex field)?

What about adding a file in the root of this repository called CITATION.bib containing a bib entry similar to the one above but maintained by the authors here?

Even better in my humble opinion would be setting up a Zenodo hook to automatically archive every release and automatically generate a unique DOI and bibtex entry for easy citation?

Or maybe I got it all wrong and that's not how one should give credit to the contributors of this project?

This is not answerable until Till returns from hiatus, which might never happen.

I'm not sure why that would be the case (that this is not answerable). Could you clarify?
