Perhaps I'm mistaken, but the point type or an array thereof (and all other geometric types), don't seem like a PostGIS specific datatype to me, as they are available in normal Postgres without PostGIS extension.

point, lseg etc are NOT PostGIS types. Those are built-in PostgreSQL types that have existed since the dawn of PostgreSQL. So should probably go on a different ticket.

PostGIS types are geometry, geography, and raster.
