It's been six years ... can we close this issue now? It feels like it's no longer a pressing problem.

How about `cabal -v0 new-run`? That's what I use.

Yes, I am using `zsh` version 5.8. That's the version I'm having problems with.

Our infrastucture is geared towards building packages from Hackage, I'm afraid. It's not trvial to run those CI builds from a "random" git repository.

The dependency on the `gmp` library is also undeclared.

We've updated `haskell-src-exts` in NixOS, and now we can no longer compile lushtags.

Workaround: run `rm *.*` in to wipe out all files from `~/.cabal/packages/hackage.haskell.org` that contain state.
