It has come to my attention that the new owners of the Page Ruler extension have released an update that contains some kind of analytics/tracking code which some users understandably do not want enabled. Unfortunately I no longer have any control over the extension in the Chrome Store and am powerless to do anything about it despite them leaving my original contact details within the extension.

Some people have already left negative reviews because of this and the new owner has responded stating that they will be adding the option to disable the tracking code in the future. Whether that is acceptable is up to you.

If you still want to use the extension in it's previous form, the Chrome Extension Archive has a copy of the previous version of the extension that you can install yourself.

  • Visit the Page Ruler page on the Chrome Extension Archive and download version 2.0.9
    • You can view the source before installing it if you want extra assurances that it is legitimate
  • Follow the instructions at Chrome Extension Archive Github project on how to install it and prevent auto updating to the latest version.

Additionally, the original source code is still available on the original_source_code branch. The code is fully open sourced under the MIT license so you can do whatever you like with it such as run it locally or even publish your own version to the Chrome store.
