Feature Request: Ability to disable stickers

Open sriram-rao opened this issue 6 years ago • 8 comments

For those who are not fans of stickers, it would be nice if there was an option to disable them. It could be either by not allowing a sender to send stickers to the receiver who has disabled stickers, or by replacing the sticker image with the text that is visible when one replies to the sticker message.

I think the more appropriate behavior would be give an user the ability to replace the sticker for their associated emoji, per user, group or private chat.

I could really use this, NSFW sticker use prevents me from using Telegram on work computers.

I would love to have the ability to sub emojiis for stickers on my end. It's clear some folks love playing with stickers but I don't want to see 90% of them (due to them being garish, ugly, annoying, offensive, etc.)—let them have their fun. And, I really don't want to be the boring "get off my lawn" person in the group chat so if I could just see the small emoji and go one with my Telegram life where I see actual messages, that would be awesome.

Mostly I just hate scrolling through waves of stickers -- replacing them with a link or emoji would be much better.

It's also annoying to accidentally click on the sticker interface while composing a message -- a user option of "never send stickers" would help.

(Most of my Telegram use is with large groups, when there is a stream of 20 people sending stickers the conversation gets drowned out.)

We have added support for this in our custom build of this repository. There are some other limitations controlled by policy as well. https://github.com/cloudveiltech/CloudVeilMessenger-iOS

I really appreciate this but have no idea how to use it. There is a link at the bottom of the page the linked page that says: "Build this by following the instructions here" which leads to a 404 not found page. Thanks. (Also, I spend at least half of my Telegram time using a Desktop (macOS) client.)

We'll get those build instructions fixed (https://github.com/cloudveiltech/CloudVeilMessenger-iOS/issues/9). I'll look into the macOS version and try to get that out asap. I have it running but looks like we haven't released it. The binaries are available in the app stores with links and a brief description here: https://www.cloudveil.org/2018/01/05/cloudveil-messenger/
