Image Layer Stopped Working after update
We updated to the latest version of Neatline today. Unfortunately, one of our exhibits uses the Image Layer for a static image for the background. The background image will not load and it only displays the map. This is a major problem as a student was going to present his work in the next week. Please advise! Thanks, Anne
Hi @akthomason,
Thanks for the report, and sorry you're having trouble!
If you can provide us with a bit more info, we'll have a look.
- Can you provide a link to the exhibit in question?
- Which version of Omeka are you using?
- Do you have other plugins installed?
Thanks!
cc @akstuhl: when you've got some time, would you have a look? Thx!
Hi @akthomason, this sounds similar to the problem observed in #399, for which a fix has been tested — we're presently working on getting a release out with that change. If there's a link you can share to the exhibit where this is occurring, it should be possible to determine from the browser console if what you're seeing is indeed the same issue. If so, and if you're able to edit PHP configuration settings on your server/webhost, you can try setting allow_url_fopen and allow_url_include to On and it will likely resolve the problem. In any case, I will check back in on this thread to see if there's more I can investigate and will post a note when the release is ready.
Hi Jamie,
Due to the time sensitive nature, we restored from a backup so it is working now and we only lost a little work. But here is the link:
http://digitalchicago.lakeforest.edu/neatline/show/jane-addams-european-travels
We upgraded from 2.5.1 to 2.5.2 using Omeka version 2.5. The static image link was in the “image layer” field under exhibit settings.
Other plugins: Contribution, CSS Editor, CSV Import, Exhibit Builder, Geolocation, Guest User, History Log, HTML Media 5, LC Suggest, all the neatline plugins, Search by Metadata, Shortcode Carousel, Simple Pages, Simple Vocab, Youtube import.
With the backup, we are back at Neatline 2.5.1.
It was working fine before the Neatline update, so at least we know that must be the problem! For now, it’s OK, and next time we upgrade neatline we will run a backup so we don’t lose any data.
Regarding the php, we checked the allow_url_fopen and allow_url_include to On and that was set right.
Thanks!
Anne

Hi @akthomason, thanks for keeping us posted. When we make a release with a fix, if you've got time to test against your exhibit, we'd be glad to know if it addresses the issue for you.
@akstuhl @jamiefolsom Was this issue addressed as part of #433?
Hi @jeremyboggs, yes, it was. @akthomason if/when you have a moment to try out the new release, v2.6.0, which includes that fix, among others, it would be great if you could confirm whether that fix addresses the problem you were seeing. Thanks!
Hi Jeremy,
I hope to test this next week, thanks!
Meanwhile, I have a question that may be you could answer. I was looking at this Neatline exhibit: http://hotchkiss.neatline.org/neatline-exhibits/show/my-dear-little-nelly/fullscreen
I noticed the timeline stretches the fullscreen and the timeline uses different fonts than the standard neatline exhibits.
For our project, we would like to use these features. How does this work?
Best,
Anne Thomason

Hi @akthomason,
The Dear Little Nelly exhibit was created using an older version of Neatline and the SIMILE timeline. Unfortunately, one can no longer create exhibits that look like that.
Best, Ronda
