Don't re-join if you have already joined

Open taw00 opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

If you /join again instead of /words at the end of a sprint, Sprinto gives an excellent error message alerting you that you should have used /words.

Then if you dutifully use /words, Sprinto assumes that 2nd /join was legit and resets your beginning word count to your ending wordcount ... and since your /words was the same, it calculates that you achieved 0 words per minute.

I.e., Sprinto needs to allow more room for error by the user in this case. IMHO.

Ah, I have to admit I've thought a lot about people using /words to join, but it's never occurred to me someone might accidentally use /join to to set words.

So the problem is, you can rejoin to reset your starting word count at any time, and that's a valid thing to do, and doesn't always mean the user meant to /words

So the solution would be to still have it work as is, but then say "Did you mean to set your final word count: [ Join 100 / Words 150 ]" and offer a button to fix it in case you intended that.

I'd like to change some other suggestions to buttons too, like when your word count adds up to a negative number it should offer the suggested fixes as buttons.

It should be noted that /join was used by accident because that was the last / command I entered, and discord is "super helpful" with its autocomplete. Also, when you are a more casual user of Sprinto (as I am), the workflow is less obvious out of the box. I.e., I recognized I shouldn't have used /join but I didn't realize the effect it had (cuz, I interpreted the messaging as an error message and not as an info-message).

Anyway. I am crossing the streams responding both here and in discord. I think you have enough feedback from me to continue to muse on this particular item. Cheers. -t
