How big of a project is it likely to be to get this running on a recent Blender version?

Quite a project, I'd imagine. It's been more than a year since I last did a merge. Was planning to update the branch some time ago, but I've got build issues I couldn't figure out, so I never got to it. You can find a more recent version here: https://projects.blender.org/pembem22/blender
