A way to stop an Interpreter or at least see if it is running

Hello,
I was wondering if there is a way to stop a Interpreter while it is running or 
atleast see if an Interpreter is doing anything?
If there is no way of stopping an Interpreter, it makes bsh very limited.
Any plans for these features?
